Description

Cultural Communication invites candidates with an interest in contemporary culture, literature and linguistics. The programme offers a broad range of theoretical and practical courses preparing for work in international settings, particularly in the cultural sector.  

DURATION: 3 years (6 semesters)  

Drawing on the research and teaching experience of the Faculty of Languages, the interdisciplinary study programme explores various aspects of communication within culture, through culture and between cultures. It includes courses on

  • contemporary audiovisual and digital culture, theatre, dance and performance,
  • European and world literatures and their intermedial adaptations
  • culture and literature of Poland and Eastern Europe
  • interrelations between culture and politics
  • linguistic analysis of discourse
  • social aspects of language
  • psychology and sociology of intercultural communication  

The practical module includes:

  • an intensive course in practical English for Business, Public Relations and Diplomacy, based on authentic materials and taught by experienced teachers
  • project management
  • management of cultural organisations
  • IT solutions for the modern workplace.    

Key knowledge and skills

  • advanced knowledge of contemporary culture, literature and language in the context of intercultural dialogue;  
  • practical knowledge and skills in the management of cultural projects and organisations and the use of modern IT solutions; 
  • excellent command of spoken and written English for international organisations and companies (C1 level);  
  • the ability to effectively analyse and process various sources of information; 
  • excellent skills in intercultural communication.  

JOB PROSPECTS

Graduates of Cultural Communication have the cultural expertise and language skills necessary to pursue a career in international cultural institutions and organisations. They may also take up positions in the agencies of the European Union, diplomatic missions, local government institutions, the media, international organisations and corporations.

Eligibility criteria

High school diploma grades and exams results (if available in a given country) in following subjects:

English

Candidate's native language (if the native language is English, then another foreign language)

One of the following: History, History of Art, Biology, Social Science/ Civics, Geography, Mathematics, Physics/ Physics and Astronomy, Chemistry, foreign language (French, Spanish, German, Russian, Italian, Ukrainian), Latin and Ancient Culture

Additional entrance exam* checking the knowledge to undertake studies. Scope of the exam: Problems of international communication in the sphere of literature and culture; distinctive features of the candidate’s culture and language in an intercultural perspective. Failing the exam results in disqualification from the recruitment process. Exam will be conducted online.

 

*Applies to non-EU citizens holding foreign high school diploma, except holders of:

  • IB (International Baccalaureate)
  • EB (European Baccalaureate)
  • high school diplomas issued within the education system of one of EU, EEA or OECD member states
  • high school diplomas recognized on the basis of bilateral agreements on mutual high school diploma recognition with Poland
